  • Prof. George Enyima Armah

    Prof. George Enyima ArmahProfessor George E. Armah of the Electron Microscopy & Histopathology (EM) at the Noguchi Memorial Institute, University of Ghana, Legon is the Chairman of the VALCO Board. Prof. Armah holds an MSc in Physics from the University of Ghana Legon, and a PhD in Bio-physical Chemistry and Immunology from Osaka University, Japan.

    Prof Armah is a member of several international scientific Boards and Committees and was recently recognised as a “Vaccine Hero” by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In 2013 he was honoured by the International Double stranded RNA Virus conference in Puerto Rico for his outstanding contribution to the field of Rotavirus virology and for Rotavirus Vaccine introduction in Africa.

     

    Administrative Role

    George has also played the administrative role as the Head of EM at the Noguchi Memorial Institute and the Master of Commonwealth Hall, University of Ghana, Legon. His research interests are in viral gastroenteritis and malaria immunology and pathogenesis.

  • Mr Daniel Acheampong

    Mr Daniel AcheampongDan Acheampong is the Deputy Chief Executive of VALCO in charge of Human Resources/Administration, Legal and Public Affairs. Dan graduated with First Class Honours Degree in Business Administration from the University of Ghana, (UGBS) in 1984, majoring in Management. He joined VALCO in 1987 and worked in various capacities in human resources including Personnel services, Safety, Industrial Relations and Community Relations. He became the Director of Human Resources and Administration of VALCO in May 2005 after acting in that position for some time.

    Prior to joining VALCO, Dan, with his impressive background in Contract, Administrative, Company Law, had worked for over 3 years as Administrative/Investigations Officer with the Office of the Ombudsman, now CHRAJ.

    With over 28 years of contemporary experience in Human Resource Management and Leadership, Dan constantly holds a global perspective of issues in his profession, given his solid professional/executive post-graduate credentials obtained from the Business Schools of the University of Michigan, Harvard University and, the Centre for Creative Leadership, all in the United States of America. Productivity occupies a pride of place in Dan’s heart, thanks to his course of study at the Botswana National Institute of Productivity.

    Dan has since 2005 been on the National Labour Commission (NLC) as a Commissioner. He serves on a number of high-profile Boards, including the Advisory Board of the University of Ghana Business School. He has been a long-standing member of the Ghana Employers’ Association Council, having served on the Association’s Advisory Committee, the National Tripartite Committee on Labour, National Technical sub-Committee on Minimum Wage Determination as well as on the Committee on Re-introduction of End-Of-Service Benefits.

    Dan was elected President of the Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners, Ghana (IHRMP) in November 2007 after having served as the Institute’s Vice-President from 2003.

    Dan is a practicing Catholic and is happily married to Kate. They have two children, namely, Yasmine and Nhyira.

  • Rev. Prof. Andrews Seth Ayetteh

    REV. PROF. ANDREWS SETH AYETTEYRev. Prof. Ayettey was born 10th October 1945 at Osu, Accra Ghana. He attended the Osu Salem Middle Boys Boarding School. After Secondary School education at Adisadel College, Cape Coast (1961-1967), he studied at the University of Ghana Medical School. In 1970, he was awarded Ghana Government scholarship for a BSc degree in Anatomy at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, London University in 1970. He continued his medical studies back in Ghana and graduated as a medical doctor at the University of Ghana in 1974. In 1978, he gained the degree of PhD in Anatomy at the University of Cambridge, UK and joined the University of Ghana Medical School as lecturer in Anatomy in 1978.

    He served the University as teacher and medical science researcher for 37 years and occupied the position of Head of Department of Anatomy, Vice Dean, and Dean of the Medical School and as Provost of the College of Health Sciences of the University of Ghana. He also a Visiting Professor to Tulane University, USA, between 1986 and 1997.

    From 1998, he has served as member and, later, Chairman of the Prison Council, Chairman of the Korle Bu Management Board and member of the Council of the Presbyterian University College. He is a member of the Judicial Council and of the VALCO Board.

    Prof. Ayettey has been a minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for 29 years, a member of Boards of Child Evangelism Fellowship of Ghana and Youth for Christ Ghana (from 1974 to 1985), member of the Advisory Council of World Vision Ghana (1982-2010) and a member of the World Vision International Board of Directors (2000-2010). He is married to Cecilia Naakai Ayettey and have five daughters and five grandchildren.

  • Mrs. Brenda Semevo Afari

    Mrs Brenda Semevo AfariMrs. Brenda Semevo Afari is a Lawyer and Corporate Governance Practitioner with 15 years experience in the national and international community.

    Mrs. Brenda Semevo Afari joined Universal Merchant Bank in April 2015, after seven very successful years as Chief Legal Affairs and Corporate Governance Officer at the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa, a technical arm of the African Union Commission responsible for implementing Pillar IV of the Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Program (CAADP Pillar IV).

    She has considerable experience in the Ghanaian financial sector having worked with Standard Chartered Bank Ghana Limited for 4 years and for another three years with Awoonor Law Consultancy a reputable firm of Corporate and Investment Lawyers.

    She has supported institutions in obtaining and administering loans and / or grants from financial institutions and international development organizations including the World Bank and European Union Commission and has facilitated the efficient running of Boards across the continent.

    Brenda is a Lawyer with 15 years hands on experience in the general practice of law and corporate governance. Specialized areas of law include business/commercial, investment and corporate law, legal aspects of banking and finance and international non-profit organizations. Her work has taken her to over 15 countries in Africa and Europe.

    She holds an LLM in Banking and Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science, an LLB from the University of Ghana and GCE O and A Levels from Achimota School. She is also in the final stage of gaining membership to the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, London UK and is a Chevening Scholar

  • Mr Danny Adzei Anang

    Mr Danny A. AnnangMr Danny Adzei Anang is the Managing Director and Founder of Daben Cleansing Services, a waste management company based in Accra. He is a holder of a Diploma in Marketing from the Rapid Results College of London and the Royal Society of Arts, Stage II Certificates in Commercial education.

    He began his work career in 1972 at the State Fishing Corporation where he rose through the ranks to become an Area Manager. Between 2009 and 2014, Mr Anang served as a Member or the Board of Volta River Authority where he supported the Authority through the Board to initiate a number of power projects to increase the national energy stock.

  • Hon. Dr. Francis Bawaana Dakura

    HonDrFrancisBDakuraHon. Dr Francis Bawaana Dakura is a Member of the VALCO Board. He is an anthropologist and a former Member of Parliament for Jirapa in the Upper West Region. He is a businessman and a farmer. Dr Dakura is a people-oriented, focused, forward-looking, task- and results oriented individual, grateful to God the Almighty for the rare gifts of social tools to help meet the challenges of the needs of humanity in the 21st century. As a social anthropologist, he is a natural social engineer and a creative business developer, with good social communication skills, who believes in team work risk taking.

    Hon. Dakura offers strategic leadership through team building and patient mentoring skills. Having lived, studied and worked in Western Europe for a good part of his adult life, he regards himself as a cultural hybrid. He enjoys the challenges presented by the continuous currency of Information and Communications Technology as there is always something new to learn.

    Hon. Dr Dakura holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from Havering College, United Kingdom. He also holds a Diploma from the Institute of Social Sciences, Moscow and has the Finals of the CISA (Chartered Institute of Secretaries & Administrators). He also possesses an MA (Master of Arts from the University of London Goldsmiths College, a Master of Letters (M.Litt) from University of St. Andrews Fife Scotland. Dr Dakura holds a PhD from the University of St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.

     

  • Mr. Michael D. Abrokwa

    Mr Michael AbrokwaMr Michael Abrokwa is the Board Secretary and Company Secretary at VALCO. He has several years’ experience in the field of Human Resource Management. He began his working career in Human Resource Management with VALCO as an Administrative Officer and rose through the ranks to become the Manager in charge of Learning and Development before assuming his current role.

    As Learning and Development Manager, Michael championed a number of training programmes including VALCO’s flagship programme – the Leadership Development Training. He coordinated training programmes and ensured that the right Management training programmes were identified, procured and implemented in line with the Company’s strategic objectives. Aside that, Michael played multiple roles through which he contributed tremendously in marketing VALCO.

    Michael holds a B.Sc. (Business Administration) majoring in Human Resource Management, an Executive MBA from the University of Ghana Business School, Legon in the same filed and an M.Phil. (Leadership) from the University of Professional Studies Accra. He has also obtained Certificates in Corporate Governance and Company Secretarial Practice.

    Michael is a member of the Association for Talent Development (ATD), American Management Association (AMA) and the Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners (IHRMP) Ghana.
