Ing. Ahmed Boateng is the Acting Director of the Cast House Department at Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO). With over a decade of progressive experience in metallurgical and aluminium production operations, Ahmed is a results-driven engineering professional with strong expertise in production management, process optimization, quality assurance, and operational leadership. In his current role, he provides strategic and operational leadership for the Cast House Department, supporting the production of aluminium products that meet and exceed the needs and expectations of both local and international customers.
Ahmed has built his entire professional career at VALCO, beginning as National Service Personnel in 2014. Following his national service, he was retained as a Management Trainee and subsequently progressed through the ranks as Assistant Manager, Manager, and Area Manager before his elevation to his current position as Acting Director of Cast House. His steady progression reflects his strong technical foundation, leadership capabilities, and extensive understanding of VALCO's production and operational environment.
Throughout his career, Ahmed has played a significant role in managing and optimizing casting operations involving products such as Sow Ingot, Extrusion Billet, Rolling Slab, Foundry Ingot, and EC Grade Rod. He ensures adherence to established metallurgical and operating procedures while maintaining the required standards of safety, product quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction. His experience spans production planning and scheduling, resource allocation, equipment and process optimization, critical raw material and inventory management, quality management, cost control, waste elimination, and the implementation of continuous process improvement initiatives.
Ahmed has also contributed to several important technical and strategic initiatives at VALCO. His professional assignments have included participation in the Plant Safety and Process Audit, ISO Audit Team, Molten Material Handling Committee, Cell Line Restart Team, Cell Line Crisis Task Force, ALCOA Extrusion Billet Qualification Team, and the CCR Project Implementation. These engagements have provided him with broad exposure to production, safety, quality assurance, technical qualification, business continuity, operational improvement, and value-added product development.
In his current position as Acting Director of Cast House, Ahmed is responsible for providing leadership and direction to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient casting operations. He remains committed to strengthening VALCO's position as a competitive and sustainable aluminium producer through operational excellence, product quality, process efficiency, cost competitiveness, innovation, and increased value addition.
Ahmed holds a Master of Engineering degree in Industrial Operations and a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Engineering, both from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He is also certified as an ISO 9001 Lead Auditor by SGS and holds a Certificate in Project Management from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
He is a member of The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) and the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE), reflecting his commitment to continuous professional development, engineering excellence, and active engagement with the wider metals and engineering community.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Ahmed is a family man and an ardent football enthusiast. He is particularly passionate about the beautiful game and firmly believes that Lionel Messi is the greatest footballer of all time.
