Ing. Mrs. Regina Mawusi Odoom is a trailblazing leader and the first female Director of Docks, Engineering, and Maintenance (DEM) at VALCO, a significant milestone in the company's commitment to diversity and leadership excellence. Her remarkable journey with VALCO began in 2011 when she joined as a National Service personnel after earning a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Regina quickly stood out for her exceptional performance, earning a permanent position within the company. Prior to this, she had already laid a strong foundation with a Higher National Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from Accra Technical University, obtained in 2003.
Regina's unwavering commitment to lifelong learning is exemplified by her academic pursuits, including an MBA in Finance from Methodist University Ghana. This advanced qualification, combined with her completion of the prestigious Female Future Programme Ghana, sponsored by the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO), underscores her dedication to leadership excellence and strategic acumen. As the Director of the DEM Department, Regina employs a servant leadership philosophy to oversee a wide array of critical operations. She is instrumental in planning, managing, coordinating, and implementing engineering projects and maintenance activities, ensuring the seamless operation of the plant while optimizing costs and efficiency. Her leadership also extends to overseeing the operations of VALCO’s Docks and Marine Terminal, further showcasing her versatile managerial capabilities.
Throughout her career at VALCO, Regina has chaired or participated in several key committees, including the Lockout Tagout (LOTO) and Overhead and Gantry Crane Committees, where she has made significant contributions to advancing the company’s strategic objectives. Her 13 years of experience in industrial operations and project management have seen her lead major capital and maintenance projects, strengthening VALCO's infrastructure and operational capabilities.
Regina's professional credentials are as impressive as her experience. She is a certified Professional Engineer (GhIE) and Project Management Professional (PMP), actively engaged with the Ghana Institute of Engineers and the Project Management Institute (PMI Ghana Chapter). Additionally, she holds certifications in ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems and Lead Internal Auditor, which underscore her commitment to maintaining the highest standards in quality and operational excellence.
Her commitment to innovation and excellence extends beyond her role at VALCO. Regina participated in the 10th International Research & Development Carbon Conference in Switzerland, where she explored advancements in raw materials and aluminium smelting technologies. She has also undergone international training in “Sustainable Development of Electric Power for Developing Countries” in China, reflecting her global outlook and dedication to sustainable development practices.
