For nearly 40 years, Cell Lines had been using the manual German burn-off puller equipment.

Recently, however, the team decided to innovate and improve this process as part of the Plant's broader innovation drive. They introduced the concept of a motorized puller to enhance efficiency and safety. The decision to convert the old, abandoned manual German burn-off puller into motorized equipment was driven by the following considerations:

  • The manual equipment was labor-intensive and cumbersome, requiring significant time and energy to operate.
  • The manual operation posed safety risks, especially during work on a sick-cell, due to personnel exposure to heat and fumes from the open stall.

The new motorized burn-off puller was re-designed specifically to address these needs. It allows for efficient grabbing and pulling of burn-off material without impacting adjacent anodes, while also reducing the exposure of personnel performing the task.
